I am taller than Willem Dafoe. I am also a more advanced tango dancer, but tonight that doesn’t matter. What matters is that despite being at one time Jesus Christ, another time a freaky psychiatrist married to a mentally devolving Charlotte Gainsbourg, and yet another time a blue speedo-clad German accented deck hand on the great ship Zissou, Willem Dafoe stands just a few inches below me....

Nowhere Fast
This could be Carter’s head. This is machined metal, not to be confused with Metal Machine Music. It’s going to be too heavy for his tiny little plastic+bamboo body, but damn does it look amazing. I even like the striped traces of the tool on its face.

Whirlwind of activity and new things since last I posted. To start off, Halloween was a blast as usual, me continuing to mine the deepest depths of my imagination to find ever-more obscure costumes. This time out I went for a homemade (second year in a row) kaiju/Ultraman fiend, Alien Zarab.

Comic Con 2010 was a great rush this year. With only a day to make an impression, the Carter costume was modded and re-born as the Carter Art-O-Mat.
The mod allowed me to distribute schwag and create a quick impression on the floor. Fearing on the trip down I would have to slog it out with the booth babes outside, I was pleasantly surprised to find the get-up attracting attention and photos...

there is a light that never goes out
So many inspirations this weekend, and it feels that Spring has just begun in proper. Friday began with the Senior CCA Furniture show at Swarm gallery, to Saturday picking up the 3D print of a prototype I’m working on, to Sunday at the grand “31 hour” opening of the revamped Oakland Museum to Exit Through the Giftshop, Banksy’s film on art, life, what-have you.

I went about cutting the pieces (thin as paper) to fit the sketch model and now have the start of round two of the Carter prototype. So let’s start at the top: here’s where we’ve left off with the Carter prototype. A crude, quickie sketch model made to show basic functionality (thanks Alison for the magnet suggestion). Carter has been a recurring character in the past couple of issues of Catholic Kate, and felt like a natural choice for my first 3D character.
